Ring Nebula - 06/07/2024 - Reprocess!

Hello!

I've finished imaging for the summer season - unfortunately, I won't be able to image much thru my telescope until the next summer, I go to uni about 350km away from my scope, and due to me living in the middle of a large city there, there is not point to bring my scope with me unfortunately, due to light pollution and buildings obstructing the view.. and now during September, I'm going on vacation and probably won't have any opportunities to use my scope :/ I am however hoping to shoot some cool space pics with just my DSLR and a tripod on the trip!

I've learnt a LOT during this summer season, my gear has evolved too! I've captured a lot of data thruout the last several weeks but honestly I haven't really properly edited any of it, so over the next several weeks I'm planning on processing all those images and gradually posting them in here!

With that said, I've decided to revisit the target that I opened the season with - the Ring Nebula.

I didn't shoot it again, actually.. I just decided to try processing the old data better! This time I've processed it mostly in a program called Siril, it's free and opensource, and it's great!

I've stretched the background of the image a bit more, and for the nebula itself I've decided to give Wavelet Sharpening a go, and it turned out amazing! I've first ran the image thru Starnet++, which basically gave me the image without any stars in it - just the nebula - then I used the wavelet option in Siril, and re-combined the nebula together with the previously removed stars. After that, I've stretched the old picture a bit further - to bring out a bit more detail - and composited the two together in paint.net to get the more detailed nebula with the more detailed background!

If you look very closely, you can actually just barely see the faint outer layer around the nebula! Really neat!

Once again, this is all the same data as last time. If you've missed that post, you can find it here!

This one ofc isn't very colorful, as it was shot with a MONO camera.. however, soon I'll have much MUCH more colorful pictures up :) stay tuned!

If you enjoy those images, I'd really appreciate if you could share them, or if you joined my discord server!
