A very noisy lesson: Iris Nebula - 07/08/2024

 Hello there!

Today I present you an Iris Nebula image I captured back in the summer..
the data is.. not great haha

While imaging it I have had my scope run into it's tripod a few times.. (thankfully it's an EQ5 so no damage), and I've also tracked down an issue with my secondary dewing up! Notes taken, a few sessions later I did grab a piece of cardboard and some tape to put a makeshift dew shield up on my scope! And started keeping the tripod and lenght of the scope in mind when choosing targets of course.

I'm honestly surprised that after denoising you're somewhat able to make out the shape of the nebula.. but I think it might be just due to less stars in the dusty areas?

While doing a quick process now, I've also discovered a weird thing - the stack from Pix (the paid software I'm using nowadays) and Siril (a proper, free processing software I used to use for a while before I purchased a PixInsight license) would come out extremely noisy, while DSS (a stacking-only software I used to use in the past) was relatively clean... After half a day of research, I found that the option "Optimize Master Dark" in PixInsight "fixes" the issue and makes the stack comparable to what DeepSkyStacker would output! Unfortunately, I do not know if an equivalent option exists in Siril.. I used the OSC_Preprocessing script though, so nothing I could really change about it setting wise?

new stack with the issue present
old stack that alerted me of the issue

Terrible image, but it was a solid learning experience! :p
